Starbucks and Free Coffee!

That's right, yesterday Starbucks was giving away free coffee for anyone that brought in a travel mug.

Question of the day: if I get something for free, does it have to made in America?  Or does free stuff fall under the "Goodwil principle?"

  1. Hmmm... well... the whole reason why you're buying all American is to support your own country rather then someone else's, right? I would think that you are still kind of buying something with that Starbucks offer. I guess to me it's along the same lines as if you find a buy one, get one sale. Say you get something made in America and something else made in China, do you just tell yourself you got the Chineese made one for free? The store is still going to replenish that item once they're low which means buying from China not America. I would think, no matter what the cost, it's still supporting another country even if it's free.

  2. I like your logic. I didn't actually check the origin of the coffee because I wasn't thinking about it in those terms (and because I was grabbing coffee for a work meeting that I needed to hurry to....not that it's an excuse), but now I wish I would have! According to Good Eats, some coffee is grown in Hawaii, so I'm sure I could have found something good. Thanks for the insight!

While we're on the subject, do you have any opinions on the "Goodwill principle" I mentioned in the earlier post? Just curious. :)
